Are You In Process?

One of the most beautiful things in life is running water.  I love the sound, smell and sight of it, from majestic rivers to bubbling streams and stunning waterfalls.  The sound is calming, the smell is invigorating, and the sight can be breath taking.

On the flip side, one of the ugliest things in life is a stagnant pit of water.  The longer it sits, the blacker it becomes.  Stagnant water begins to smell, and coagulate into a festering pit of bacteria.  YUCK!   Every day we have a choice to live beautifully, as vibrant, vivacious, bubbly, life giving water, or we can live as ugly, stagnant life draining water.

In order to live beautifully, a key truth is that we must be in process.

By definition “process” means:

“to be in continuous action, just like running, vibrant, active, beautiful, and moving water.”

What this really means is that we must constantly be growing, refined, and restored instead of being stagnant.  I want to live beautifully, BUT often find myself stagnant, stuck in a rut, and going nowhere fast!  There are many things that get us stuck like busyness, anger, unforgivness, frustration, disappointment, and fatigue. A common pit we often find ourselves in is when we are defined by our past failures, sin and shortcomings.

I speak from prior experience.  When I was in my early 20s I was stuck in an ugly, stagnant, pit of despair.  It started at a young age and grew exponentially as I let it sit.  I was not in process.  I was stuck, and my pit was filled with unresolved hurts, an accumulation of bad choices, anger, unforgivness, fears, insecurities, self-doubt, shame and guilt.

So the question is, how do we get in process, start moving from the ugly to the beautiful?

Philippians 4:13-14 has truth that helps us get in process and move from stagnant water to running, bubbly, vivacious, moving water.

Philippians 4:13-14 reminds us what to do when we are stuck

“but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

1) Press in the Lord.

Commit your life, heart, mind, circumstances, feelings, hurts, pain, and shortcomings to Him. If you have never surrendered your life to Christ and asked him to begin the process of redeeming and restoring you, TODAY IS THE PERFECT DAY TO START THE PROCESS! Sister, please call me or email if you are in this place! If you have started the process, then press into Him every day, asking Him to do in your life what you are not capable of doing on your own.

2) The truth is that our pasts can define us or refine us.

Once I stopped being defined by my past and embraced all the ugly stuff as growth opportunities, I began the process of being refined into the woman that God created me to be. I was no longer defined by my ugly pit because I was in the process of allowing it to beautifully shape me.  Sister, you are beautiful! Whatever your circumstances are, let them beautifully shape you! Jesus died and rose again so that our past would refine us, and who we are in Christ would define us.

3) Today consider what areas of your life are beautiful.

Take time to rejoice over those bubbly, vivacious, life giving places.  Also, consider what areas of your life are stagnant, and that are keeping you from growing in Christ, being restored, revitalized and renewed.

Share your thoughts with me!  I’d love to hear from you.
